While I was watching TV this afternoon I saw a Nike commercial and it really impressed me. Nike did not make an obvious attempt at selling their product but showed average people doing above average things while using their products. They made their focus very broad and showed a wide variety of athletic activities that people were engaging in; ranging from running and basketball all the way to extreme wheel-chair stunts and break dancing! Yes...interesting commercial. This commercial was upbeat, edgy, and very "soft" sell. One of the things we know about Gen Y and younger audiences is that they tend to reject overt selling appeals. This commercial seems to fit right in for that audience.
